Doris Included in Irish Team But McCarthy Omitted

Rugby team announcement update

Newly reappointed manager the Ireland coach has named skipper Doris in his Irish team for the autumn Tests, however Joe McCarthy is absent.

The captain, absent from play since undergoing a shoulder operation in early May, recently returned to provincial training, though his fitness is uncertain whether he will be ready to face the All Blacks in Chicago on November 1.

Second row Joe McCarthy, on the other hand, was not considered after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the opening British and Irish Lions match against the Wallabies in July.

Northern province forward Izuchukwu and southern province wing Nash are also absent due to injury, while number 15 Keenan was previously excluded after having hip surgery following the summer tour.

Dublin province forward McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole uncapped member in the 34-player group, however Irish rugby authorities says new provincial duo Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped Connacht winger Bolton will travel to the US as "reserves".

After playing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their 2016 encounter, Ireland host the Brave Blossoms, the Wallabies and world title holders South Africa in the Irish capital.

"It's an exciting group to the panel and it's a chance for the veteran players and for those who made their debuts on the recent tour to the Lelos and Portugal," commented Farrell, back to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to coach the Lions tour to Australia.

In a mostly familiar-looking selection, the Dublin club's Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will once again compete for the starting number 10 position. The number 10 jersey is remains up for grabs, as Prendergast and Crowley set to face off for the first time in Saturday's URC game at the Dublin venue.

Ciaran Frawley is the additional number 10 chosen as Farrell opting against selecting Leinster's Byrne.

At scrum-half, Farrell has selected British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained the national side to the summer international wins over the Lelos and Portugal. Additionally, there is a return for the western province's Caolin Blade, chosen to teammate Ben Murphy.

Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Garry Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey form an experienced cohort of centre options. Osborne is another option in the centres, but the 23-year-old is also a frontrunner to deputise for the full-back at number 15.

Outside backs James Lowe, Mack Hansen, O'Brien and Stockdale are included. O'Brien shone on his national team debut over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over the Lelos and the Lobos.

Paddy McCarthy is the sole new addition in the Irish pack. The loose-head prop has been in two of his province's three league games so far and played in the second string's defeat by the English in the English city previously.

The 22-year-old was included in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer squad, yet did not earn a cap.

Southern province lock Thomas Ahern, who received his debut appearances in those Tests, is retained, while experienced Ulster second row Henderson is back after sitting out the summer matches.

Jack Conan, who played in each of the Lions Tests during the tour, is set to cover for the captain if the captain does not regain full fitness soon enough to face New Zealand.

The national team will meet in Dublin on the start of the week before flying to the US on Tuesday.
