Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
