The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
